Kavanaugh - Statistics for Business: Minitab for Quality Improvement in Manufacturing

Minitab for Quality Improvement in Manufacturing

Process Capability Sixpack - click for larger image This hands-on workshop is normally taught in 4 days, and explores the MINITAB tools and statistical techniques that are critical to most quality improvement initiatives. The course focuses on making good business decisions based upon the practical application of statistics.

Prerequisite: none.

As an attendee, you learn how to:

  • Decrease the time required for statistical analysis by learning to navigate MINITAB's windows quickly and structure data properly. Learn how to use, interpret and customize many MINITAB graphs, including histograms, plots, boxplots, bar charts, interval plots and time series plots. Assess the normality of your data using graphs and basic statistics.

  • Augment your graphical analysis skills using MINITAB's powerful statistical tools. Determine the appropriate sample size to assure confidence in analysis results. Use t-tests, ANOVA, and variance tests to show evidence of a process change or improvement.

  • Evaluate measurement systems (Gage R&R, linearity, and stability), process capability (for normal and non-normal binomial data), and process stability (variable and attribute control charts).

  • Generate and analyze full and fractional factorial designs using MINITAB's intuitive DOE interface. Choose settings that optimize one or more responses or determine the direction of further experimentation.

Optional topics are special additions to standard Minitab training workshops, and extend each course by about 1/2 day. All Minitab training workshops use the latest, current version of Minitab, and authorized Minitab training materials.

This workshop is composed of the following Minitab workshops:

Minitab 9 graphs - click for larger image

  1. Introduction to MINITAB and Basic Graphical Analysis - overview of Minitab, data entry and basic charts, basic data analysis, importing and manipulating data.

  2. Basic Statistics for Manufacturing Quality - one and two sample t-tests, proportion tests, correlation and regression, analysis of variance, multiple regression (optional).

3 SPC graphs for same data: I (Individual), EWMA, and CUSUM - click for larger image

  1. Statistical Quality Analysis for Manufacturing Quality - Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Capability Analysis.

  2. Factorial Experiments - Overview of Designed Experiment, Introduction to Factorial Designs, Full Factorial Designs, Fractional Factorial Designs.

Each participant receives official Minitab workbooks and data files, as well as a certificate for Recertification Units for completion of this workshop.
